Tall Tripod For GoPro Cameras – 193 cm Elevation
If you’re considering a tall tripod for GoPro cameras then I have what I view as one of the best all round tripods available. The tripod I have used as my own “Go-to” tripod when I’m looking to capture landscape photos and Timelapse videos is the professional travel tripod made by K and F Concept.
I’ve owned the tripod for just over a year now and I have to say it’s the best camera accessory I’ve purchased in the last 10 years.
Specification
This tripod has a lot of features and technical aspects. I’ll focus on what I think are the most relevant, particularly on those relevant to setting up the tripod at higher elevations.
The maximum height measured from the tripod feet to the top of the base plate is 76 inches / 193 centimetres. You won’t find many tripods at this size and physical weight that extended anywhere near that.
I’ll talk about the height settings in more detail further in the article.
Size & Weight
One of the features of the tripod is the weight, or carry weight which comes in at 1.98 Kg. The dimensions when folded up into the shoulder bag which comes supplied is 49 cm.
Taking the folded weight and size into consideration is certainly important. If you’re out hiking all day or city exploring, having a fully adjustable tripod that isn’t going to be too cumbersome carrying around is vital.
Construction
K&F have used quality materials throughout the construction of the travel tripod. The legs are made from 25 mm magnesium aluminium tube with a high abrasion coating.
The tripod head and quick release plate are all made from a metal alloy giving the tripod a feel of robustness and ridigity which is important when you’re setting a tripod high.

Tripod Features
Designed into the K&F travel tripod as are a plethora of features. The strength to weight ratio is very important. What this means is, you have a strong, sturdy tripod that isn’t affected by strong winds and is easy to carry around.
Spirit Bubble
Ensuring the GoPro is level when filming landscape and cityscapes is a basic requirement. To help you level off the tripod there is an integral spirit bubble level.
The spirit level is housed in the base of the metal tripod head making it easy to adjust the camera frame using the ball head and locking knob.
Ball Head
The 36mm ball head with quick release tripod plate will accept cameras up to 10 Kg in weight.
Operation of the ball head feels smooth, although this isn’t a fluid head tripod. Having said that, it’s possible to pan the head smoothly. Extending the transverse center column horizontally acts as a pan bar.
Transverse Center Column
The centre column houses a transverse bar which rotates 90 degrees on a ball head joint. This has a number of uses. As mentioned, it allows the camera operator to pan the tripod head.
For overhead photography, the transverse centre column allows you to place the came directly above a subject. This has many practical uses. From tabletop photography to taking shots of low lying objects on the ground.
Panoramic Scale
The column directly below the head has a clear scale marked in degrees. Although designed for taking panoramic photos with a DSLR, it may be useful for GoPro photography also. Less so for GoPro Max users as the Max has the PowerPano photo mode.
Shoulder Carry Bag
The tripod legs fold back on themselves 180 degrees. This means the folded size of 49 cm fits neatly into the weather resistant shoulder bag. The bag comes supplied with the K&F Concept Travel tripod.
There’s just enough room to fit several other GoPro accessories in the bag along with the tripod as well. You’ll be able to carry a long selfie stick in the bag or,perhaps a shoulder clip mount.
Height Ranges
When it comes to height adjustment this tripod has many options. To start off with, there are 3 extending leg sections locked / unlocked using spiral type locking knobs.
The legs are unfolded from the storage / carry position by way of 180 degree lockable press release locks. (See picture).
It’s possible to lock the legs at various angles, from just under 90 degrees to almost vertically as shown in the main picture of this article.
Once locked in place the legs may be extended by unlocking the spiral locking knobs to any desired height.
Maximum Height Settings
The maximum height with all of the legs fully extended is 57.68” / 146.5 cm. At this height the GoPro rear screen is at an ideal height for setting up photo framing.
But that’s not it when it comes to how tall this tripod can be set up. The centre column may also be raised to a maximum height of 67.52 inches / 171.5 cm.
Housed inside the centre column is the transverse column, this also extends vertically providing the maximum height of the tripod at 75.98” / 193 cm.
Below I have listed the maximum height for each tripod stage for easy reference.
- 25 inches / 63.5 centimeters with fully closed legs.
- 57.68 inches / 146.5 centimeters, legs fully extended.
- 67.52 inches / 171.5 cm with center column extended.
- 75.98 inches / 193 cm with transverse column extended.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to height adjustment and flexibility in various photography set ups the K&F Concept tripod offers a lot of variations.
Not only does it provide a stable platform at height but also for tabletop set ups and macro photography at ground level. However for low angle shots a smaller tripod such as the Neewer may be a better option.
All of this doesn’t come at a budget level. The K&F is a fair investment, one that will last for years with it’s quality construction and materials used throughout.
I hope this article inspires your thoughts on taking more professional style video and photos with your GoPro cameras. Let me know what you think in the comments section.
