GoPro Backpack Mount – Telesin 360 Degree Strap Mount Review

If you’re looking for a GoPro backpack mount this long term review of the Telesin backpack [1] mount may be of interest to you.

The mount itself is a simple low cost solution to attaching a GoPro or any other action camera that uses finger style prongs to connect with mounts.

I have given my candid opinion of what I think of this backpack mount made by the company Telesin in this article. Read further to discover my findings.

After reading my review, watch the video below with footage filmed with the GoPro Hero 11 attached to the backpack strap mount.

Telesin Backpack Mount Specification

For those who like a little technical details I’ve listed the specifications below. The mount is very lightweight making it hardly noticeable when attached to a backpack strap.

  • Weight: 24.7g
  • Size: 79.3*33*46.5mm
  • Compatible: Any action camera with GoPro style finger mounts.
  • Comes supplied with a large thumb screw.

Durability

I’ve used the mount a lot over the last 3 months. It’s been attached to my Berghaus backpack while on numerous day hikes.

So far I haven’t had any problems with build quality. The clamp is made from a relatively tough durable plastic with brass inserts and stainless steel parts.

The back of the material has a neoprene covering with a textured finish for added grip while attached to a strap.

The only slight niggle has been a few loose gray stitches where the Velcro is machine sewn onto the neoprene. It was just a matter of trimming these loose strands with a small pair of scissors.

Water Resistant

I have worn the backpack mount in the rain. Due to the stainless steel, neoprene and other materials used in construction. I’ve discovered no rusting or degradation due to getting the mount wet.

Attaching A GoPro To Backpacks

The mount is primarily designed to attach to the strap of a backpack. You simply wrap the neoprene material around the strap and secure using the large Velcro pads.

I found there was little movement or slipping of the mount when it was tightly wrapped around the strap. The process of removing the mount was just as easy too.

Other Uses

You could of course use this style of mount with a number of different pieces of clothing. Belts, life vests, sling shoulder bags to name a few.

360 Degree Rotating Buckle

360 degree rotating buckle

The main working part is the 360 degree ball joint. To rotate the mount its just a matter of loosening the large locking wheel, setting the desired angle of the GoPro and tightening up the wheel.

In practice the 360 degree feature works very well. You have the ability to rotate the camera approximately 45 degrees in the horizontal plane too. This allows you to set the camera lens in line with the path you are walking for a better point of view angle.

For those who like to create video content for Instagram, being able to fix the GoPro at 90 degrees is ideal for portrait 9:16 aspect ratio footage.

Double Ended Base Plate

The buckle slides into the base plate from either end. First off, straight out the box I found the buckle to be very stiff. It has now loosened a little to make attachment / removal easier without compromising rigidity.

Having a double ended base plate means you can use the J-Hook for a number of practical uses which we’ll take a look at now.

J-Hook

At first glance you do wonder what this is used for. However, the J-Hook is a very welcome addition to the features of this mount.

Mini Selfie Stick

If you have a GoPro Shorty or similar mini selfie stick you can attach it by way of the J-Hook. This is useful if you wish to quickly unbuckle from the mount and grab a different POV shot while hiking for example.

Camera Light

This application does require a swivel mount, plus a ¼ inch thread adapter. Using both, you can attach a camera light to the J-Hook which is great for hiking in low light or even at night.

Final Thoughts

So there you have it, a relatively quick review of this simple and effective mount.

As a very low cost investment I’d suggest adding one of these Telesin backpack mounts to your action camera mounts kit.

The mount is ideal for anyone hiking or walking and even kayaking with the appropriate type of life vest.

I’m looking forward to taking this mount with me on my forthcoming skiing trip this winter. I’ll let you know how it performs in the snow in the coming months.
