Insert SD Card To Insta360 One RS

Insert SD Card To Insta360 One RS

Insta360 cameras [1] are somewhat different to other action cameras. The One RS is a modular design that comes in 3 separate modules. Anyone new to this type of system may wonder where to insert the SD card into the Insta360 One RS.

In this guide I’m going to quickly show you how insert the micro SD card into the camera so you avoid damaging the internal SD card slot.

Where To Find The Micro SD Card Slot

SD card slot / USB-C port cover

The SD card slot for the One RS is found on the side of the Core Module. This is the module with the color LCD menu screen at the rear.

With the screen facing you, on the right hand side you’ll find a plastic cover around 12mm x 10 mm in dimensions. On one side of the cover is a small latch with a knurling textured surface.

Opening The Cover

Opening the cover is a little fiddly. You will need a finger nail to gently prise open the cover in the direction away from the rear screen. If you don’t have any fingernails, use a small instrument screwdriver with care.

Lever the latch a small amount and the cover will pop open. It does have a plastic retaining loop or lanyard so as you don’t lose or misplace it.

Inside The Micro SD Card Cover

With the cover opened you’ll find the USB-C port for charging the battery and connecting to a computer. Next to this is the micro SD card slot which is more narrow compared to the USB port.

Placing The SD Card The Correct Way Round

The brass pins of the SD card facing the rear screen

This part is crucial. You must place the SD card in the correct orientation. Pinch the end of the card with your thumb and forefinger at the end away from the brass contacts.

Slide the card into the slot with the brass contacts facing the rear LCD screen.

Gently apply a little pressure to the top of the card once it’s seated inside the slot. Be aware, the slot is not spring loaded like other action cameras such a GoPro.

Leave the micro SD card sitting proud by a few millimetres outside the card slot. This does feel a little strange especially if you’re used to spring loaded micro SD card slots.

Replace The Card Slot Cover

Now the card is in situ the correct way around. Rotate the cover if necessary so the latch is closest to the rear screen. Ensure the latch is pulled back as you reseat the cover inside its recess.

That’s all there is to it. Easy when you know how! But it does throw people a little as it is different to GoPro and DJI action cameras.
