Insta360 One RS Photos – Standard & HDR Photo Sample Gallery

Insta360 One RS Photos – Sample Gallery

I’ve owned the One RS for over a month now and I’ve enjoyed creating content with this new action camera. So I thought I’d share some of my Insta360 One RS photos with you.

There are a number of aims to this article. First to demonstrate the photo quality of the One RS with some sample photos.

Secondly to give my insights into how I think the camera performs using these photos as a basis. From that I think it will help you to take better photos with your One RS 4K boost lens camera.

Editing One RS Photos

A brief word about editing the photos. All the photos on this page are unedited. I wanted to share exactly what the photos are like transferred directly from the One RS.

Of course the photos have been compressed in JPEG format in order to view on a web browser. So in terms of resolution they will have lost a fair amount of detail and sharpness.

I would also crop some of the photos if I was sharing on social media such as Instagram. This would improve the composition in some cases.

Adobe Lightroom

There are many options when it comes to editing the photos. You have of course the basic photo editing parameters inside the Insta360 app. Although they are basic they perform reasonably well if you’re keen to upload to social media.

Personally, I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to edit all my action camera photos. The Adobe apps provide almost limitless photo editing capabilities.

I’m going to write a specific article all about photo editing using Adobe Lightroom in the near future, so look out for that.

Photo Modes

You have the option of two photo modes on the Insta360 One RS. Standard Photo and HDR. HDR stands for high dynamic range.

The technology behind HDR combines multiple photos taken with different EV settings. What this means in practice is a photo with a higher dynamic range.

A higher dynamic range means greater detail in both the shadows and the highlights.

I have included photos taken with both Standard Photo mode and HDR mode in this article.

Settings

Below I have listed the main settings for each of the 2 photos modes.

First of all you have resolution 8K being the highest. The resolution also has an impact on the aspect ratio. For example at 48 megapixels (MP) the One RS uses the whole image sensor and shoots in 4:3 aspect ratio.

Aspect Ratio

For uploading to Instagram I’d suggest in most cases to shoot photos in 4:3 aspect ratio. The reason being that it gives you a more vertical field of view compared to 16:9 aspect ratio.

Photo Format

The image format comes down to 3 choices as you can see below. JPEG is the lowest quality due to higher compression.

JPEG plus RAW is the best quality as RAW files allow you to adjust the photo settings in photo editing apps without degrading the quality.

I would suggest always shooting in RAW if ultimate image quality is your aim. These images are larger in file size so that is a consideration.

HDR Photo Mode

Resolution:

  • 12MP (4k) 4:3
  • 9MP (4k) 16:9

Standard Photo Mode

  • 48MP (8k) 4:3
  • 36MP(8k) 16:9
  • 12MP (4k) 4:3
  • 9MP (4k) 16:9

Format:

  • JPEG
